Privacy policy

Taurus Medical handles personal information every day — from an enquiry about event cover to the clinical record of a patient in the back of an ambulance. This policy explains what we collect, why we hold it, who we share it with and how long we keep it.

Who we are

Taurus Medical provides emergency medical services, film and event medical support, health and safety solutions and medical concierge services across Cape Town & the Western Cape. Our website address is https://taurusmedical.co.za.

We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as that term is used in the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Enquiries you send us

When you send an enquiry through the contact form on this site we collect the details shown in the form, together with your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.

  • Your name
  • Your company or organisation
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • The service you are asking about
  • Whatever you write in the brief

We use those details only to answer you, to quote for the work and to keep a record of what was agreed. The form is not monitored around the clock — for an active emergency, call +27 72 388 0440 rather than writing to us.

Patient and clinical information

When our crews attend a call-out, a set or an event, they record the clinical information needed to treat you and to hand you over safely: your identifying details, your medical history as you give it to us, our findings, the treatment we provide and where we take you.

Health information is special personal information under POPIA. We collect it because it is necessary to provide you with medical care, and we hold it under the confidentiality obligations that bind registered healthcare practitioners. It is never collected through this website.

Media

If you send us images, you should avoid sending images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as that data travels with the file.

Photographs of our crews and vehicles published on this site are our own or are used with permission. We do not publish images of patients.

Cookies

This site sets only the cookies it needs to work. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell what we learn about your visit to anyone.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Nothing on this site depends on them, so blocking them will not stop you reading the pages or sending an enquiry.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content — videos, images or maps, for example. Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website yourself.

Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction with it if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for marketing. We share it only where the work requires it:

  • The hospital, clinic or receiving facility we hand a patient over to
  • Other treating practitioners involved in your care
  • Your medical aid scheme or insurer, where a claim is being made
  • The client who booked the cover, in the form of a de-identified incident summary
  • Our service providers — hosting, email and spam filtering — who act on our instructions only
  • A regulator, court or authority, where the law requires us to

How long we retain your data

Enquiries and the correspondence that follows them are kept for as long as we are working together and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that we can pick up where we left off and answer any question about work we have done.

Patient records are kept for at least the minimum period required by South African health legislation and the guidelines of the Health Professions Council of South Africa, and are then securely destroyed.

What rights you have over your data

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that is wrong, object to how we are using it, or ask us to delete it. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, clinical or security purposes.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have handled your information improperly.

Where your data is sent

Enquiries submitted through this site may be checked by an automated spam detection service, and are delivered to our email provider. Some of these providers operate servers outside South Africa; where that is the case, they are bound by contract to protect your information to a standard comparable to POPIA.

How we protect your data

This site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to enquiry and clinical records is limited to the staff who need it to do their jobs, and clinical records are held separately from anything connected to this website.

How to contact us

To ask about this policy, or to exercise any of the rights above, write to our Information Officer. Please tell us what information you are asking about, so that we can find it.
